history 

Throughout history, the Kerkennah islands, located 20km from the coast of Sfax, was a place of exile Carthaginian General Hannibal .The was sent here in the past. This isolation is an attraction for tourists seeking a quiet and peaceful destination off the noise. 

Early Kerkennahs called kyrakyn then, some time later, to become Kyrannis kerkennah or Kerkenna.

Kerkennah islands are located 20km from the coast of Sfax. We can get there by taking the boat which is to / several times a day in summer. The capital is located about 16km Remla the port of Sidi Youssef (center kerkennah). Kerkennah is a set of islands including the two largest Chergui and Gharbi its islands. 

The weather is hot and dry 90% of the year

tourism 

In the early 60 tourism appears, tourists were mostly people seeking a quiet place, cut the noise. Gradually, tourism has become more important, hotel chains appear in different villages of Kerkennah, the municipality is undertaking work to rebuild roads kerkennah. 

Kerkennah still remains a quiet and peaceful place, the island remains a low traffic area because it is little known to the public. 

The beaches are well maintained but the water is shallow, go far enough from shore to swim. 

The kerkenniens are warm and welcoming, beautiful friendships that form between them and tourists. 

There are even some retirees from Europe and England who settled on the island.
